After being injured during a battle with Chikka Devaraya, Sambhaji decided to create his own armour that could protect him from every kind of attack. He tests his armour and it proved to be useful when it blocked an arrow. The Maratha king is now well prepared for his second round of war with Devaraya.

2. Sambhahi smartly tracks down Anaji Pant

When Sambhaji was on the lookout for Anaji Pant, he tracked him down with his strong sense of smell. Yup, you read that right. The Maratha king caught hold of a letter written by Anaji to his men. The letter mentioned all the details of the next attack that was supposed to be carried out by Anaji’s helpers. The parchment wasn’t signed, and yet Sambhaji was able to identify Anaji as the writer because of the smell of sandalwood that the paper contained. Anaji was the only one who wore sandalwood scent in the kingdom.

3. Sambhaji uses Kondaji to tackle Siddi

During his war with Siddi, Sambhaji used his trusted adviser Kondaji as his pawn. He asked the latter to disguise himself and enter Siddi’s realm. Kondaji was asked to spy on Siddi and figure out where the hidden treasure of the kingdom was kept. Sambhaji’s move proved to be successful, as the king was eventually able to defeat Siddi with this war strategy.

4. Sambhaji covers up for his absence

Before setting foot for war with Aurangzeb, Sambhaji asked Yesubai to pretend as if he’s in the kingdom but is occupied. He did so, as he didn’t want people to know that he’s missing his daughter’s wedding to go on the battlefield. He instructed Yesubai to make up excuses for his absence by telling people that he’s present and isn’t seen because he’s occupied with household chores. And surprisingly enough, this tactic of the Maratha king worked wonders!

5. Sambhaji uses Akbar to his advantage

At the time of his war with Aurangzeb, Sambhaji slyly created a further divide between the Mughal king and his father Akbar, who were already at loggerheads. He did so by taking Akbar under his wing, when the latter’s son Aurangzeb had led an attack against him (Akbar). By gaining Akbar’s confidence, Sambhaji killed two birds with one stone; he built a stronger army with Akbar against Aurangzeb and assured that the former could form an alliance with the Maratha king after claiming the Mughal throne.
