1. Shubhra From Agga Bai Sasubai
Zee Marathi has always showcased strong, powerful female protagonists. From older shows like Honar Sun Mi Hya Gharchi and Julun Yeti Reshimgathi, to newer ones like Agga Bai Sasubai and Mazhya Navrachi Bayko, women in these serials have been shown as having a voice and opinions. Society has changed and become more matriarchal now, but such was not the case in the past. We believe that the portrayal of strong female characters has helped bring in this change. On Women’s Day, we look at some of them, starting with Shubhra from Agga Bai Sasubai.
This show is breaking all societal stereotypes as we see Shubhra supporting her mother-in-law for a second marriage. She has to face her husband as well as her Ajoba’s wrath. But Shubhra manages it all with confidence. She handles Soham’s tantrums with grace and managing the house, in Asawari’s absence, post the latter’s role marriage to Abhijeet. Shubhra also handles her office work at the same time! Is she a superwoman? We think she surely deserves appreciation!
2. Maya From Mazhya Navryachi Bayko
Maya’s entry in Mazhya Navryachi Bayko might have left people shell-shocked, but there’s no denying the fact that the woman is a powerhouse of confidence! Maya is well-educated, experienced and can carry off herself well. She puts a lot of thought into the business and Yashwant’s faith in her shows us that she is worthy of all the attention that she gets. Maya even wears classy and smart attires, that go with her image. A perfect example of a boss babe, much?
3. Radhika From Mazhya Navryachi Bayko
Radhika’s story is the true definition of inspiring. From being cheated on and mistreated to rising above it all, finding love again and finally getting married again, Radhika has gone through her share of highs and lows. She has also proved herself as a successful businesswoman, with her impeccable business acumen, hard work, and dedication. Another point to be noted is that earlier, Radhika has also supported Shanaya despite the latter’s efforts to harm her. A queen always fixes another’s crown right?
4. Summi From Mrs. Mukhyamantri
Ladies from the urban setting may have their set of privileges but Summi, who hails from a village, proves that she is no less. Less-educated but still a super powerful and strong-willed woman, Summi has started her own cafeteria and works very hard towards maintaining it. She is also seen standing up for herself against her mother-in-law Anuradha. Aside from this, Summi also participates in political campaigns, to support her husband Samar. Too much on her plate? Well, our lady handles it with utmost grace!
5. Yesubai From Swarajyarakshak Sambhaji
When we talk about strong women, we can’t miss out on our great Maratha Queen, Yesubai! The queen fought fearlessly beside her husband and Maratha king Sambhaji. She gracefully handled his fears and showed him the correct path. The queen also contributed to politics and thought about her kingdom first, like a true queen. Yesubai bat one eyelid when it came to sacrificing her own safety for Swarajya.
