1. The Chapekar brothers revolt
ZEE5’s recent original Marathi series Gondya Ala Re tells the story of the Chapekar brothers, who led India’s first ever rebellion against the Britishers. In 1892, Pune was riddled with a bubonic plague and British officials subjected citizens to various atrocities such as sexual harassment, destruction of property etc. The plague commissioner at the time- WC Rand – was responsible for the incidents and was assassinated by the Chapekar brothers.

There are many powerful scenes in the series starting with this one here where we see the first sign of rebellion in the Chapekar brothers. They are participating in a bhajan when all of a sudden, some British officials disrupt the meet and ask everyone to leave. But the brothers stay put and keep singing out loud, standing their ground and showing Britishers that they can no longer suppress Indians.

3. Building an army
In order to fight the Britishers, the Chapekar brothers need a strong army and Damodar takes up the responsibility of building one. This scene of youngsters preparing for war will send a chill down your spine!
4. Damodar doesn't back down
The Chapekar brothers are conducting a small prayer when Britishers interrupt the same and tell them to return home. But Damodar and his brothers won’t hear any of it. They put up a strong fight and threaten the officials to back down or else they will revolt. In the end the officers leave and the Chapekars win.
5. Gondya Ala Re
This is another crucial scene from the series where one learns the exact meaning of ‘Gondya Ala Re.’ These words were initially said out loud by Damodar, to alert his brothers about the arrival of WC Rand and that one of them has to shoot him. But do things go according to plan? Find out!
