Unlike most daily soaps which portray unnecessary animosity between a saas and bahu,, Asawari and Shubhra from Agga Bai Sasubai break the stale trend. The characters- played by Nivedita Saraf and Tejashri Pradhan– share a close friendship and are each other’s back done. Shubhra even plays cupid for Asawari, who is a widow and has a soft corner for celebrity chef Abhijeet Raje and vice-versa. It’s refreshing and inspiring to see this mother and daughter-in-law pair empower one another at every step of the way.

While their onscreen camaraderie has been established, what kind of a real-life equation do Nivedita and Tejashri share? “We get along really well,” says the actress in an exclusive chat with us, adding, “What I love about Teju is that she’s very passionate about acting. And I too belong to that category. We haven’t come here to make friends and while away time. We are here solely for work. So it’s very important for me to treat my work with that kind of discipline as I am wired that way. And I can see that quality in Tejashri as well. She doesn’t get bored, and nor does she throw any tantrums. We have become great friends now, just like how Asawari and Shubhra are on the show.”
Who says two actresses can’t be friends right? Ask Nivedita about her association with Girish, and she says that two share a “very professional equation.” “I’d also like to add that he’s very generous as an actor. We keep helping one another through the scenes. He also has a lot of patience and his diction too is amazing. There are many scenes that we do together and have now gotten a hold of each other’s timing. We make it a point to rehearse our scenes,” she adds.
Asawari pampers her son Soham (Aashutosh) on the show and even goes the extra mile to tend to his needs. So does Nivedita follow the same route with her own son? “Yes, I do pamper my son (laughs). It has decreased now but earlier, I was overprotective as a parent. Having said that, I will not allow my son to answer me back or bully me, like the way Soham does with Asawari. My son is a complete Mumma’s boy and will always stand by me. He can’t stand anyone speaking against me so there’s no chance he would humiliate me.” says the actress.
Ask Nivedita if she sees any similarities between Asawari-Abhijeet’s bond and what she shares with her husband Ashok Saraf and she says, “What I find inspiring about Abhijeet Raje’s character is the way he treats women and understands them. And I am very lucky to have a husband like Ashok in my life. He’s an extremely committed person and has the strength to be that way. Ashok and I are best friends. We started off as friends and then became lovers and got married. So the friendship is still strong.”
