Pipsi starring Sahil Joshi (as Balu) and Maithili Patwardhan (Chaani), tells the story of a girl who tries to save her ailing mother. Chaani and Balu hear a story about how a king’s spirit was entrapped in a fish and as long as the fish was kept alive, nothing would happen to the king. Hence the two start believing that if they save a fish and keep it alive, they can save Chaani’s mother.

The film also sheds light on how doing the same is such as task for Chaani in her drought-stricken village. This scene from the film is one of the many that sheds light on the same. Chaani sees her mother breathless and rushes to get her water.

She realises that the container has very little left. Chaani notices a few fish kept in the plate near the gas to be cooked, out of which one is still alive. She quickly picks it up and puts it in the glass in which she pours some of the water, thinking that doing this can save her mother rather than giving her water directly.

This scene is beautiful as it’s symbolic of the famous phrase, ‘there’s always light of the tunnel,’ meaning that one shouldn’t give up hope, no matter what.
